Founder and President, Alan G. Schmitt attended the University of Michigan in 1955 came to Marathon where he worked as general manager for Phil Sadowski. (Phil Sadowski is responsible for creating Key Colony Beach, Coco Plum and Marathon Shores by dredging up dry land from the bay bottom.) Here they sold lots for $1,000 and homes for $8,000. Soon after, Alan became the exclusive broker for all of Stanley Switlik's Sombrero properties. Stanley was then developing the Sombrero Country Club and various associated subdivisions. His son Brian founded the Coldwell Banker Schmitt Real Estate Co. and Alan been appraising full time since 1983.
Alan is the past president of the Marathon Board of Realtors; Charter President of the Florida Keys Chapter of the National Society of Fee Appraisers; past President of the Marathon Jaycees; senior member of the American Society of Appraisers; founding member of the National Association of Realtors, Appraiser Section; and general accredited appraiser of the National Association of Realtors.
